Are you searching for information on Monterey County housing? If so, you’ve come to the right place. In this article, we will share with you the latest developments regarding housing in the Monterey County area.

More Housing to Be built In Monterey County Soon?

The City of Monterey, CA recently took a bold step recently towards increasing housing supply in the Monterey County area by voting 4-1 to create up to 405 new homes. The Garden Road site where the homes will be built will also have roughly 20% affordable housing units as well.

What’s great about the amendment is that it also allows for the conversion of existing buildings on the site into residential housing units.

“There’s still a lot of work to be done, but with tonight’s decision, the city shows its ability in being able to adapt to change.” – Monterey City Council member Tyller Williamson.

Besides the project along Garden Road, there’s also an additional housing project in the works for 2200 North Fremont that would bring 40 residential units, eight low-income units, and over 5,000 square feet of prime retail space.

Thankfully, the Fremont project has broad support within the city including the planning commission, architecture review committee, and community groups who are all eager to see blight removal along Fremont Street and improve the area overall.
